Yorkshire's heritage is brought to life thanks to this exciting web application featuring footage from major events and magic moments in days gone by. Yorkshire Film Archive, in conjunction with funders Screen Yorkshire, are proud to present their innovative web application, the Yorkshire Calendar. Each week the Yorkshire Calendar will show 60 seconds of archive film footage of the people, places, traditions and events that make Yorkshire so special.
From grand openings to royal visits to great days out, there will be something for everyone and any Yorkshire business or organisation can display the Yorkshire Calendar on their website for free. Just email firstname.lastname@example.org to request instructions on how to embed the Calendar.
The Yorkshire Calendar was designed by the Yorkshire Film Archive (YFA) in collaboration with York-based digital agency Bright White, which developed the technology. The footage used is taken from the 16,000 films that make up the collections held by the Archive which has joined forces with Welcome to Yorkshire to launch the calendar in celebration of the county’s heritage.
YFA’s Director, Sue Howard said: “Thanks to the support of Screen Yorkshire this is the first of a number of initiatives we have been working on, using digital technologies to create new ways of connecting people to Yorkshire’s great film heritage.”
All the films from previous weeks will be available at the click of a mouse via the ‘more from the archive…’ link, where users will also be able to leave their comments, making a personal contribution to a growing archive of rich material.
