Audiences Flock to Masham for Hit Documentary Addicted to Sheep Featuring Q&A with Director Magali Pettier

Sun, 1 Nov 2015

Masham Town Hall broke a new box office record last season, as audiences came from far and wide to watch ‘Addicted to Sheep’, which screened along with a Q&A featuring director Magali Pettier. The documentary, which follows one family’s quest to breed the perfect sheep, was screening as part of the venue’s Movies at Masham season, presented in partnership with Cine North. The film has clearly struck a chord with audiences from across the UK, where it has been screening to acclaim following its world premiere at the prestigious Sheffield Doc/Fest in June 2015.

Nick Reed, Administrator, Masham Town Hall says: ‘’We were thrilled with the response to ‘Addicted to Sheep’. It’s a brilliant film and Magali’s participation really added to the experience for us and the audience. The Yows have even toppled Dame Judi Dench from her coveted position as the best attended film since we started screening in 2011. We’ve yet to see whether she can claim it back with our showing of ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel next month’!’

Rachel McWatt, Project Manager, Cine North said: ‘’We were delighted to be able to support Masham Town Hall and Magali to screen this heartfelt and highly entertaining portrait of modern rural life. It was particularly pleasing to welcome audiences from outside the region who had travelled long distances on a very bleak night to join us. We look forward to sharing ‘Addicted to Sheep’ with many more venues & audiences across the Cine North network in Yorkshire & Cumbria in 2016.’’

‘Addicted to Sheep’ transports audiences to the North Pennines where tenant farmers Tom and Kay spend their days looking after their flock of prized sheep, hoping that this will be the year they breed the perfect one. Director Magali Pettier, herself a farmer’s daughter from Brittany in France but now living in the North East, follows a year in their lives, capturing both the stark, stunning beauty of the landscape and the brutally hard graft it takes to survive and support their three children, thoroughly immersed in their remote rural world.
