Eden Arts and Cine North, two of the North’s leading arts organisations, are on the lookout for community venues across North Cumbria which would like to host local cinema events as part of its REMOTE Cinema network. They are inviting interested individuals to join them at a gathering on 10th May, 6:30pm at Penrith Old Fire Station to find out how they can get involved.
Eden Arts, working with community cinema specialists Cine North, are helping to bring communities together for local film screenings in locations which don’t have easy access to cinema previsions.
Eden Arts and Cine North are now keen to recruit new venues – particuarly in the Eden Valley and Allerdale - which would like to host 6-8 screenings between September 2016 and May 2017.
Each screening is intended to be a social event, which gives people the chance to create a fun, social atmosphere with dressing up, food, music, games and other activities – often inspired by the film’s themes. They are also a great way for village and community halls to generate income to invest back into the upkeep of these vital local buildings.
Each participating village venue will receive a comprehensive package of support including technical training, marketing and programming advice and support, film license booking and administrative support. A high definition cinema kit - including a large screen with high quality projector and sound system - will also be provided, along with access to a rich and diverse programme of film titles for venues to choose from.
Head of Projects at Eden Arts, Heather Walker, says;
“REMOTE Cinema is about so much more than just screening a film. It is a great opportunity for rural locations to help bring local communities of all ages together for a fun, social experience and help combat feelings of isloation and loneliness. “Of course, it is also a chance for venues to generate income by benefiting from technical expertise and equipment they would otherwise find very difficult to access.”
Eden Arts & Cine North receives funding from Eden District Council and National Lottery Funding via BFI Neighbourhood Cinema Fund and Film Hub North to run REMOTE Cinema scheme.
Eden Arts is hosting a meeting for interested people from Eden and Allerdale to find out more about joining the scheme at Penrith Old Fire Station on Tuesday 10th May, 6:30pm. This will be a chance to meet representatives from Eden Arts and Cine North as well as people who have been part of REMOTE Cinema for many years and running successful cinema events in their village.
